ABOUT
GILLY SALTER
Alongside running her own management development and training consultancy, Gilly’s passion has been in sport where she achieved the highest of levels in netball in the early 80’s playing for England. She was then selected as the Young England Captain (U23) before moving on to become a Talent & Performance Coach, where she led many of the England Potential Netball Camps at Birmingham and Bournemouth.
COACHING
Gilly has also coached within Hucclecote netball club for nearly 30 years, and during this time has worked at all age groups, however the pinnacle of her coaching time with the club was when the Premier squad took runners up / 2nd place in the Premiership Division One in 2011. This year also saw Gilly excel with Hucclecote U.16’s where they ended up 6th in the Country at National Finals.
As a Level 3 Netball Coach, Gilly continues to work with a range of talented athletes at the Severn Stars Nova Academy based at Wcyliffe College in Stonehouse and designs and delivers their annual programme covering technical/tactical skills input. This squad recently surpassed all expectations and in their first Super Nova Tournament went on to secure a place in the finals.
DEDICATION
Gilly has made a huge impact on netball in both the South West and Nationally, not only representing England as a player, but also having been President of Netball South West as well as a Board Director, Head Coach at Hucclecote NC since 1988 and was a Regional Head Scout since 1999. After this Gilly stepped up to become an England National Selector initially at U.17, then U.19 levels and finally took on a National Selectors position working with England’s Elite ‘Roses’. This culminated in Gilly being awarded an Honorary Life Membership by England Netball which was presented to her in February 2018. Gilly was thrilled to bits on hearing this.
Gilly has subsequently trained to be an England Netball Walking Netball Host and now runs three different groups across Gloucestershire. Gilly is loving giving back to an older age group who never thought they would play this amazing team sport at this stage in life and is thrilled to see the enjoyment and friendship being made in this environment.
KNOWLEDGE
Gilly is always keen to share her knowledge and has focussed on providing a range of services to schools, providing help with inset days for non-specific netball teachers for Primary and Senior Staff. With her own resources to help people who are starting out coaching, Gilly and her team help newcomers and teachers to coaching, gain more confidence and knowledge before they embark on the UKCC Coaching awards.
In addition Gilly is proud to have worked with and mentored L2 and L3 Coaches and continues to do this today.
